The Lost Summer of 2012

The only miles I've been racking up this summer have been Delta miles. Priorities have gotten all messed up and fitness has taken a back seat to work. Family is first, but work has even gotten in the way of that. Tomorrow is the third Wednesday evening triathlon of the summer. I have missed the first two because of work. I'm now debating skipping the third just because my training has been so infrequent.

I was off to a great start this year. Unfortunately, I think that I peaked in the middle of winter. I did manage two PRs this year. I dropped my half marathon by over 1 minute (1:41:34, 7:45/mile) at the inaugural Ann Arbor Marathon. I also got to within 6 seconds of breaking 20 minutes in the 5k back in Feb. Now I'm just trying to find some time to get back into a few runs each week. Maybe recover enough for a fast fall 10K or half marathon.

This year is a good year to remember that even when goals get trashed, there will always be another race and another chance to set a PR. Work craziness is only because things are going well. And I still have the best family in the world cheering for me.

Maybe I will do that tri tomorrow, just to remember the feeling and have fun with it. If nothing else, I'll get a 80  minute workout!
